Not the First case of young celebrity deaths in South Korea
Even though the cause of her death has not been revealed, her young age, her health, and the fact that this incident is not isolated, fans speculate that it might have been a suicide.
There have been so many young stars in South Korea who have been victims of suicides in the past few years. The New York Times reported that South Korea has the highest rate of suicide in the thirty-seven developed countries in the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.
A few years ago, the K-Pop industry lost a gem singer Kim Jong-Hyun in 2017 at the young age of 27. He was a victim of suicide as he was battling depression for a long time. Another K-Pop star in 2019, Sulli, had taken her own life at the age of 25, many speculate due to relentless online bullying. Her friend, and another K-Pop star, Goo Hara, also committed suicide six weeks after Sulli, at the age of 28 years.
South Korean people and people around the world, should have conversations about mental health and awareness about the issues that may prevent any more deaths.
